If you’ve been experiencing unexplained numbness, tingling/“pins and needles,” burning pain, muscle weakness, or balance problems, you may be concerned about peripheral neuropathy. Our free Peripheral Neuropathy Symptom Checker is designed to help you assess your symptoms and determine which stage of neuropathy you might be experiencing. Early detection is key to managing your condition and seeking proper treatment.
This self-assessment tool is designed for informational purposes only—if you experience persistent symptoms, please consult a healthcare professional.”
How the Peripheral Neuropathy Self Assessment Works
Our tool asks you to rate the intensity of numbness or tingling on a scale from 1 (minimal) to 10 (severe) in your feet, hands, legs, and arms. In addition, you’ll indicate whether you also experience any of these additional symptoms: burning pain, muscle weakness, balance problems, reduced reflexes, or difficulty with coordination.
- Important:
- If any rating on the 1–10 scale is above 5, your risk is automatically considered moderate.
- If more than one area rates above 5, your risk is very high.
- If you also report any additional symptoms, our tool will flag that you might have autonomic neuropathy alongside peripheral neuropathy, advising you to seek immediate medical attention.

About the Neuropathy Symptoms Test
Remember: A “Low Risk” result does not replace a professional evaluation. If your symptoms are moderate to very high or if you have any additional concerning symptoms, please consult your healthcare provider immediately.
Our tool calculates a score based on your reported symptom severity. For numbness, you rate each region (feet, hands, legs, arms) on a 1–10 scale—reflecting clinical research that shows cumulative numbness is a key indicator of nerve damage (see the Alcoholic Neuropathy risk calculator and related literature.
Additional symptoms such as burning pain, muscle weakness, balance issues, reduced sensation, and coordination difficulties are factored in with clinically weighted points. A higher score suggests a more advanced stage of peripheral neuropathy.
Please note, this is not a clinical test but a self-assessment tool intended to help you decide if you should seek further medical evaluation. For more information on neuropathy, visit our Alcoholic Peripheral Neuropathy Calculator and Best Vitamins for Neuropathy pages.
